twentysix-teen! Aldous Huxley (Brave New World) Agrees.

New "Home Job" Hair Cut!

I took the scissors out the other day and decided to hack my hair.
I've been growing my hair ever since I had the pixie do about five years ago, but have been cheating myself by going all the colours of the rainbow and neglecting my ends.
So initially I removed a good 10cm, and had a friend check the back for consistency.

My hair felt so amazing and thick! I was really enjoying my low maintenance do, with the whole "just got out of bed" look, that when I noticed how FAST it was growing, I decided to cut more length.

I think with "Home Job" cutting it's always good to have a friend handy to check for inconsistencies (especially at the back). But one of the main things, you need to have before hand is not only a good pair of hair cutting scissors.. but alot of confidence.

The more you stress, the more likely you're going to keep cutting it shorter.. and shorter.. and be more prone to making mistakes.

Just use a good pair of hair scissors, have a friend handy and be sure to put some product into your ends afterwards.
I did a non-traditional bob, free hand and decided to highlight my collarbone by having it sit between my jawline and shoulders.  Afterward I added volume just by spraying some Schwarzkopf ultimate styling spray in the roots and scrunching the ends.

I've had a fair few compliments on my carefree do and even a little laugh at some inconsistencies. but that's nothing a pair of scissors can't fix ;)

If you're wanting a specific style head over to youtube to get great step by step videos from beauty bloggers or even for a little inspiration. These v-logs are a treasure trove for the curious and if your game and can pull it off, you're saving hundreds on trips to the hairdresser.

I'm really happy with the end result and now I just hope it doesn't grow back as fast this time!

"During the rise of acid house and the Second Summer of Love, bell-bottoms became popular again"

I just googled bell bottoms and that sentence made me smile.

I wanted to share with you my final sewing project, for the end of my first year, studying Fashion Design.

The assessment for my sewing class was make whatever you want.
Be it from concept-design-pattern draft and sample or simply buying or using an existing pattern and altering it.

I chose the hard way, and made things worse for myself by leaving everything to the very last minute. >.<

However in the end, I was finally able to complete my very first pair of Bell Bottom Jeans!

My initial inspiration came from the silhouettes of Givenchy Couture 2010.
Although the garments were all dresses, they all had a slim lined thigh and flounce from under the knee.

I also incorporated some design lines, inspired by my favourite pair of UNIF leather pants, which had three panels across the knee and metal zipped coin pockets.

Overall, I'm really happy with the end result.  Being my first time working with denim, I found it really stable and easy to handle. The hardest part was attaching the curved waistband, which has twisted whilst trying to ease it in to the pant. :(

Sewing for me is all trial and error, but I'm so happy that the silhouette of the garment is exactly what I had designed.
A lot of people have questioned my choice for flares but I am absolutely pro bell bottoms and cannot wait to wear them/ make more!

What do you think? Would you wear the flare?

Now & Then: twentysix-teen. Or in this case 25 & 18.

At 18 years of age I began to earn my own income, working full time in administration for a government organisation.
It wasn't a lot of money (Quite possibly $5 per hour, which is now illegal in Australia) but for an 18 year old who lived at home, and had no expenses the $250 in my account every fortnight meant a new lease on life.
Parties, Alcohol and a new dress every weekend!
So that was where my money was spent for the first 4 months of working life, general pants co of all places, buying whatever I could afford to look "On trend" and out of the tom boy stigma that as a sports focused teenager, I had led myself to believe.

It wasn't until my boss, a fashion teacher herself suggested the notion of going to the opportunity shop, which was conveniently located next door to our office.  It wasn't long til I had my Aunty sewing my $1-2 dollar purchases, people asking where I shopped and I really began to discover and express my personal style.
Some of those Items I still Have and wear to this very day.

Looking through files on my computer recently I came across this image of me "Modelling" an outfit we had styled for a little business idea we had for a vintage clothing store on ebay.
We drank beer, listened to music and even got her boyfriend involved. I still to this day regret selling that T-shirt.
I still have the denim shorts, and my wooden carved pelican earrings and funnily enough my style seems to have come full circle, even the poses are quite similar.

So I present to you, myself at age 18 and 25.

Twenty Six VS Sixteen. Gen- "Y Grow up?"

I'm twenty six going on sixteen.

if You're wondering why sixteen?
I love watching cartoons, I have an obsession for all things Kitsch,  I call my Parents Mumma Bear & Daddy O, I Can barely cook, I haven't owned my own car until recently, I almost always spend my money for bills on clothing or knick knacks (I like to call myself Hood Rich) and I still think there is no safer, more comforting thing than a monster hug from your parents.

Besides the obvious differences i.e living out of home, a few notches on the old belt of life, world travel and paying bills on time. (most of the time)

At twenty six years of age I don't seem to be in the same position as the rest of my family or people I went to school with..

Married? No.
Kids? No.
House? Nope.
Job? oh um.. no?

Funny Looks for having none of the above? most likely.. but I'm too busy enjoying myself to notice!

I live on a shoe string budget (We're talking tighter than David Bowies Pants in the Labyrinth). One third of my fortnightly income is spent on food and rent, and the rest is usually lost on snacks, art supplies/materials, my dog, Coffee and my vice; Cigarettes.

I bit the bullet when I quit my career, travelled the world and have now found myself a little far from my home in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia studying the thing that I am most passionate about, Fashion Design. (no, not your Ladi Da drawing artsy pictures, sipping lattes and gossiping about who wore what to school.  I'm talking about Concept, Design, Pattern, Trial and error, Sewing).
"You've got thread on you" Fashion Design.
Think of Project runway. Needles through fingers (happens more often then you think), or in my case my rear end! Yes it happened, lucky for me I was rushing on adrenaline and simply managed to pull it out?

I don't have a lot of money so almost everything I own is second hand or been the benefits of the fruition of money at tax time, working casually or that special time of the year when my birthday is only two weeks after christmas (Thanks Mum & Dad)!

With this blog, I'd like to share with you my eclectic personal style, lifestyle habits, and the challenges I come across from "growing up".

It's not easy, but remember.

Anything is possible.
